Silhouette Series

Depicting life through art can often be difficult.  Although to some a 'shadow' may seem easy, making it believable challenging.  I love Silhouettes in art, but in my own form, I want to express something that creates sentiment and meaning.  This past Summer, I painted the first official part of my Silhouette Series.  I finished these back-to-back and decided to wait for the perfect time to add to my website.  What made this the 'perfect' time is the feeling behind them.  My wife recently had surgery (yesterday).  As I stood in her place to do some (not all) of the things she usually does; this time for her, I thought about this mother bird feeding her little ones.  A barbed wired fence is not a place one would think as a breakfast table, but sometimes a mother does what she can.  The cowboys at sunset plays off the same emotion for me -- the end of a long day where crawling out of the saddle and into a warm bath and bed; course, after some good 'grub'!  It also represents the end of a journey, yet looking forward to a new day, a new experience.

Both paintings I used a metallic background for the canvas.  I like the industrial feel combined with the 'care' of a mother as she feeds her children; and the long-winded day of a cowboy whose labor has paid off.  So, I affectionately call these two paintings "Barbed Wired Breakfast" and "Sunset Cowboys".   Submitting these here on September 1, 2018 as we celebrate Labor Day is a wonderful way to stop, take pride is what we do, and be reminder that those who do for us should be commended and given some time off for a job well done -- and appreciated!
